Week 5 Review

Harrison County 38, Bourbon County 34

The Thorobreds got their first win of the season during an offensive shootout. Karsyn Sumpter led Harrison County with 162 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Breds posted 298 total yards on the ground. JaCory Hinton went six of seven for 100 yards while also adding an additional two rushing touchdwons. For the Colonels, who remain winless on the year, Malachi Rennie went 16 of 26 for 193 yards and four total touchdowns (two rushing and two passing). Defensively, Ryan Lay led Bourbon County with a team-high 11 tackles. 

Nicholas County 70, Pendleton County 19

Nicholas County’s brief two-game ski came to an end on the back of 477 total team yards on the ground. Pendleton County did have a bright spot with Elijah Barhorst throwing 183 yards and three touchdowns—all to Joseph Butke, who had 110 receiving yards. Wyatt Simons led Nicholas County with 210 yards on 10 carries and three touchdowns. Colby Gray posted 165 yards on eight carries with three touchdowns as well, while Luke Davis, Philip Dixon and Chandler Kennedy each added a touchdown. 

Campbell County 29, Newport Central Catholic 28

Lucas Anthrop’s 209 passing yards and 53 rushing yards helped the Camels snap a three-game losing streak. Garyn Jackson posted 111 receiving yards and a touchdown while Carson Clark added 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns. NCC’s Kaleb Cole had 64 rushing yards and three scores. 

Ballard 26, George Rogers Clark 14

Rockcastle County 13, Paris 12

Defense was on display as the Greyhounds dropped to 3-2. Chase Williams was involved in 16 total tackles while posting two TFLs. Christian Johnson added 12 total tackles as Preston Cowan and Brandon Santiago each had 11. Santiago also had a 52-yard touchdown run. 

Mason County 40, Rowan County 16

Teegin Routt had himself a day as the Royals moved to 4-1. Routt went 14 of 19 with 267 yards and five touchdowns through the air. Cole Horch led the Mason County air raid with five receptions and 163 yards, also finding the endzone on three occasions. Garryon McClain added 45 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. 

Greenup County 63, Montgomery County 35

The Indians’ offense saw Jacob Gumm go 17 of 27 for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Jaimen Caba added 88 rushing yards and a touchdown. Greenup County got it done on the ground on the way to a 5-0 start to the season. Tyson Sammons and Austin Walker posted 201 and 108 rushing yards, respectively, with the former scoring four times and the latter scoring once. Sammons also posted 137 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Lloyd Memorial 44, Bishop Brossart 16

The Mustangs’ first loss of the season came at the hands of Lloyd. Brossart struggled to move the ball on the ground, but Tyler Holtz posted 153 passing yards and one touchdown. Quinten Tischner recorded an interception for the Mustangs’ defense. Lloyd’s Kaleb Evans had 221 passing yards and three touchdowns. Yurii Collins ran the ball for 95 yards and a touchdown as well.
