It was a big night in the 10th Region with five district baseball games and three district softball games. Here is a recap of the games:
Lead-Off Notes:
- Jaimen Caba’s home run and pitching propelled Montgomery past Clark
- Noah Bachman pitches a one-hit shutout as Bracken beats Mason
- Ty Cook returns to the mound for Scott to beat Brossart
- Kyndall Johnson a single shy of the cycle, hits 250 foot home run as Bracken beats Mason
- Big second inning gets the Fillies past Pendleton
Baseball:
Montgomery County 5, George Rogers Clark 3
Montgomery County did its damage in the second inning, scoring all five of its runs there and getting the biggest hit on Jaimen Caba’s three-run home run to left field. Carter Poe started the inning with a double and later scored on Brayden Dore’s RBI triple. Dore then came home when Talan Stevens reached on an error, and after Robby Howard was hit by a pitch, Caba drove a three-run homer that scored Stevens and courtesy runner Braylon Lambert for a 5-0 lead.
George Rogers Clark did not score until the sixth. Two batters walked, and Blake Wheeler reached on a fielder’s choice. Walker Overton then singled to right, and an error on the play allowed Wheeler to score while another run also came home. Overton advanced to third on the error and later scored on Gunner Martin’s groundout, cutting Montgomery County’s lead to 5-3. George Rogers Clark put two more runners on in the seventh with singles by Carson Watkins and Tanner Ratliff, but did not score again.
Caba finished with the decisive hit and also earned the win on the mound. He pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowed four hits and three runs, one earned, walked two and struck out six. Evan Copher recorded the final two outs. Montgomery County had seven hits. Dore tripled, scored once and drove in one run. Poe had two hits, including a double, and scored once. Jaimen Caba drove in three runs with his home run, and Jayse Mays, Rex Turner and Brody Roland each added a hit.
For George Rogers Clark, Overton had a hit, scored once and drove in one run. Jacob Todd, Watkins and Ratliff also had hits, and the team finished with four total. Caleb Pierce took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, in 2 1/3 innings. A reliever worked the final 3 2/3 innings and did not allow a run.
Bracken County 3, Mason County 0
The Polar Bears scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth. In the third, Witten Daughtery singled, Mitchell Steinhauer and Caleb Sutton followed with singles, and Cole Sharp drove in two runs with a single. In the fifth, Steinhauer singled again, Sutton added another hit, and Sharp brought home Steinhauer with an RBI single.
Sharp finished with two hits and three RBIs. Steinhauer had two hits and scored twice. Sutton also had two hits, and Daughtery scored one run. Bracken County had eight hits total.
Noah Bachman pitched a seven-inning shutout for Bracken County. He allowed one hit, walked six and struck out six. Mason County’s only hit came from Micah Payne. Carter Roark pitched all six innings for Mason County, allowed eight hits and three runs, one earned, while striking out 11.
Scott 6, Bishop Brossart 1
Scott defeated Bishop Brossart 6-1. Scott scored two runs in the third inning. Bleha singled and later scored on Groneck’s RBI single. Scott added another run later in the inning when Cook scored on a wild pitch. Bishop Brossart scored its only run in the fourth. Brady Boruske walked, advanced on Isaac Amin’s double and scored on a balk.
Scott added three runs in the fifth. Ty Cook singled and scored on Groneck’s double. Race followed with a two-run double that scored Bleha and Groneck to make it 5-1. Scott scored its final run in the sixth when Ty Cook hit a solo home run to right field.
Groneck finished with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs. Race had two RBIs on his double. Ty Cook had two hits, including a home run, and scored twice. Bleha scored two runs and reached base twice. Scott finished with nine hits.
Ty Cook pitched six innings for Scott and allowed one hit and one run while striking out 16. Race pitched the seventh inning and struck out two. For Bishop Brossart, Isaac Amin had the team’s only hit, a double, and scored no runs. Bishop Brossart finished with one hit.
Harrison County 14, Nicholas County 4
Harrison County scored six runs in the first inning. Ian Hopkins reached on an error and later scored on Cooper Slade’s single. Russ Persinger followed with a two-run single, B.J. Napier added a two-run single, and Easton Martin reached on an error that brought home another run. Harrison County added one run in the second when Blake Green doubled and later scored on Donavan Walker’s groundout.
Nicholas County scored twice in the third. Ritchie singled and scored on Holland’s single, and Zimmerman later scored on Linville’s single. Harrison County answered with three runs in the fourth. Hopkins doubled and scored on an error, and Russ Persinger added a two-run single later in the inning. Harrison County made it 11-2 in the fifth when Hopkins scored after Cooper Slade reached on an error. Nicholas County scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, with Robinson and Linville both scoring on Harrison County errors.
Harrison County scored two more runs in the sixth. Sean Vaughn scored on B.J. Napier’s sacrifice fly, and Jordan Persinger scored on Easton Martin’s single. In the seventh, Landon Custard scored on Vaughn’s double. Russ Persinger finished with two hits and four RBIs. Napier had one hit and three RBIs. Sean Vaughn had two hits and scored twice. Jordan Persinger had three hits and scored twice. For Nicholas County, Holland had two hits and one RBI, Linville had one hit and one RBI, and Ritchie had two hits and scored one run.
Bourbon County 12, Paris 8
Bourbon County scored two runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead. Justify Christopher drove in the first run with a double in the opening inning. Jackson Norris added an RBI double in the third, and Caiden Black singled home a run in the fourth. In the second, Keagan Brown and Shayne Bowling each drove in a run on groundouts.
Paris scored two runs in the fifth on Jack Owens’ single. Bourbon County responded with five runs in the sixth. Connor Buckler doubled and scored on Keagan Brown’s double. Preston Centers scored on a wild pitch, Shayne Bowling scored on an error, Jackson Norris drove in a run with a groundout, and Jack Koch added an RBI single. Bourbon County scored its final run in the seventh when Caiden Black singled home Centers.
Paris scored six runs in the seventh. Landon Brown drew a bases-loaded walk, Will Wilson followed with a two-run single, Braylon Crowe hit a two-run double, and D’aire Thomas added an RBI single. Bourbon County finished with 10 hits. Black had three hits and two RBIs. Norris drove in two runs. Christopher had two hits and one RBI. Buckler, Keagan Brown and Koch each doubled. For Paris, Will Wilson had two hits and two RBIs, Crowe drove in two runs, and Owens had a two-run single. Dexter Leverett pitched six innings for Bourbon County and struck out 12.
Softball:
Bracken County 14, Mason County 2
Mason County scored first in the second inning when Workman tripled and Ullery followed with an RBI single. Bracken County took the lead in the third. Kyndall Johnson tripled, Jenna Colvin singled, and Jordan Ahrens doubled to score two runs. Ahrens later scored on Ella Burton’s sacrifice fly, and Rees Hargett scored on Presley Johnson’s single to make it 4-1. Mason County added its second run in the fourth when Workman tripled again and scored on Ullery’s sacrifice fly.
Bracken County added one run in the fifth when Hargett doubled and later scored on an error. The Lady Bears then added five more runs in the inning. Addyson Tucker had an RBI single, Johnson hit a two-run double, Colvin reached on a single that brought in two runs, and Ahrens followed with an RBI single. Bracken County scored again in the seventh when Johnson hit a solo home run, and Burton added a two-run single later in the inning.
Johnson finished with three hits, including a triple and a 250-foot home run, scored three runs and drove in three. Colvin had four hits and scored three runs. Ahrens had three hits and three RBIs. Burton had two hits and three RBIs. Tucker pitched a complete game for Bracken County, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out four. For Mason County, Workman had two triples and scored both runs, and Ullery drove in both runs.
Harrison County 5, Pendleton County 3
Harrison County scored four runs in the second inning. Lexie Highlander reached base and later scored on an error. Jenny White scored on another error, and Isabella Persinger followed with a two-run single that scored Karsyn Bennett and Emma Hamm. Harrison County added its fifth run in the fifth when Aleigha Newby scored on Kira Persinger’s single.
Pendleton County scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning. Kinly Cooper reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch. Mylie Honnert and Hannah Spaulding both reached on walks, and Aubrey Mullins followed with a single that drove in two runs. Mullins was credited with two RBIs.
Isabella Persinger finished with two hits and two RBIs for Harrison County. Emma Hamm had two hits and scored one run, and Kira Persinger had two hits and one RBI. Harrison County had eight hits. Persinger pitched six innings and allowed two hits and three runs, none earned, while striking out eight. Shyanne Ross pitched the seventh and struck out all three batters she faced. For Pendleton County, Mullins had one hit and two RBIs, and Jessa Gerhardstein had one of Pendleton County’s two hits.
Montgomery County 14, Paris 4
Montgomery County scored three runs in the first inning, then added three more in the second on Baylee Montgomery’s three-run home run. Paris scored on Rice’s solo home run in the second and added another run in the third when Rice reached on an error that allowed Pasley to score. Montgomery County answered with three runs in the bottom of the third, getting an RBI double from Andie Auxier and a two-run single from Lilly Clark. The Lady Indians added four runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Andie Auxier, a run scored on an error after Manley’s fly ball, an RBI double by Chloe Johnson and another run on an error.
Paris scored its final two runs in the fifth on wild pitches. Montgomery County answered with its last run in the bottom of the inning on Andie Auxier’s RBI single. Baylee Montgomery finished with a home run and three RBIs, while Andie Auxier had three hits and four RBIs. Chloe Johnson doubled, scored twice and earned the win in the circle for Montgomery County. For Paris, Rice homered and drove in one run
