Terence Brooks cuts down the net after winning the 2024 38th District Championship for Harrison County.

PARIS, Ky. — Longtime 10th Region coach Terence Brooks is returning to the sidelines; he was named the head boys basketball coach of the Bourbon County Colonels on Monday. He was most recently the middle school coach at Bourbon County.

Brooks replaces Allen Martin after two seasons. The Colonels were 19-12 last year.

Coach Brooks said this in the school’s release:

“I still had the urge to coach, and after two years away, I realized I wasn’t done. The fire was still there. When Bourbon County reached out, it felt like the right time. I’m already a part of the school system, so the transition will be smooth. Instead of coaching middle school kids, I’ll be back to doing what I love, coaching high school kids and helping to build a program this community can be proud of. It was an easy decision.

I understand we’re in a tough district, but that didn’t stop me from taking the job. Challenges are going to come, and my team just needs to be prepared for those challenges. My goal is simple, establish a culture built on toughness, accountability, and togetherness. These kids deserve a program that believes in them and pushes them. We’re going to work, we’re going to compete, and we’re going to represent Bourbon County the right way every single night.

GO COLONELS!

Terence Brooks last coached at Harrison County for four seasons and won three district championships. He had a record of 74 wins and 42 losses in his tenure in Cynthiana from 2021-2024. In 2024, he led the Thorobreds to the 10th Region finals this season for the first time since 1999. They lost on a buzzer-beater to Campbell County.

He coached his alma mater Paris Greyhounds for seven seasons from 2014-2020 where he had a combined record of 124-84. He led the 2017 Paris team to the All “A” Classic State Championship. In 2004, he led the Lady Hounds to the Sweet 16 with a 24-8 record.

Coach Brooks played for Paris’s 1985 region finalist team – the Greyhounds’ last appearance in the 10th Region Championship. Brooks went on to play basketball at Murray State University.
