LEXINGTON, Ky. — Former George Rogers Clark standout Jerone Morton has committed to Kentucky after entering the transfer portal.
Morton, a 6-foot-4 guard, played the 2025-26 season at Washington State after beginning his college career at Morehead State.
Morton appeared in 32 games for Washington State, making 29 starts. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.6 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from 3-point range and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Before transferring to Washington State, Morton spent two seasons at Morehead State. As a freshman, he played a reserve role on a Morehead State team that won the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season and tournament championships and reached the NCAA Tournament. As a sophomore, he became a regular starter and averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
His move to Kentucky also brings one of the top players in recent 10th Region history back to the state.
Morton played five varsity seasons at George Rogers Clark under head coach Josh Cook. He finished his high school career with 2,684 points and 214 made 3-pointers. During his time at GRC, the Cardinals won five 40th District championships, four 10th Region titles and the 2022 KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 state championship.
That 2022 title was George Rogers Clark’s first boys basketball state championship in 71 years. Morton was named Most Valuable Player of the Sweet 16 after helping lead the Cardinals to the title.
Morton was also part of the 2023 GRC team that returned to Rupp Arena and finished as state runner-up. The Cardinals reached the state tournament in four straight seasons during his high school career.
For 10th Region followers, Morton’s commitment adds another link between George Rogers Clark and Rupp Arena. His high school career remains one of the most productive in recent region history, and his next college stop will come at the same venue where he helped lead the Cardinals to two state championship games.
