MAYSVILLE, Ky. — Mason County’s softball team now has a home field of its own, and the school’s baseball team is playing on a fully renovated field, making both facilities capable of hosting the 10th Region Tournament.
The Lady Royals’ new softball field is located off Clarks Run Road near Mason County Intermediate School. The facility includes a press box with a concession stand underneath, spacious dugouts, ample seating, lights and a ten-inning scoreboard.

Mason County softball coach Rabbit Littleton said it is a milestone moment for the program.
“It’s an honor for our players and coaching staff to be the first to have the privilege of playing at Mason County’s first varsity softball field,” Littleton said. “Although we are very thankful to have had access to the Tom Browning Boys & Girls Club and Washington Ballpark for the past 20-plus years, it is finally time to celebrate having our own complex. We celebrate this new field with and for every player and coach from the past who has played in or been part of our softball program.”
Littleton said the complex includes several features that should benefit the program for years to come.
“It is a top-notch facility that includes a press box, concession stand, home-side numbered stadium seats, a locker room attached to the dugout, bullpens and a hitting cage,” Littleton said. “The new field is located beside the track at Mason County Intermediate School.”
Littleton also credited those who have helped maintain the facility.
“We are lucky and appreciative to have Roger Barnett and Rob Mudd Ellis, who take pride in maintaining our new field as well as our previous field at the Boys & Girls Club,” Littleton said.
He added that he believes the new complex now ranks among the region’s best.
“As I believe the Mason County Fieldhouse is the best gym in the 10th Region and the state, I can honestly say we now have one of the best softball facilities in the 10th Region,” Littleton said.
Mason County’s baseball field underwent similar upgrades last year.
Only a few years ago, the field had no seating between the dugouts or behind home plate. After major renovations that included the construction of a large retaining wall, the field now features a new backstop, added seating behind home plate, new dugouts, and a press box, giving it many of the same features as the softball complex.

Royals coach Jason Butler said the upgrades will have a lasting impact on the program.
“The additions to the baseball field will provide a wonderful experience for our student-athletes at Mason County for many years to come,” Butler said. “The addition of chair back seating will allow for our parents and community members to come out and support our student-athletes, and will be a great place to watch a baseball game.”
Butler said the work also included home and away dugouts, a new press box with a concession stand underneath, a new backstop wall, restroom renovations and new irrigation for the field. He added that a room off the home dugout is expected to become a locker room.
He said those additions should benefit both current and future players in the program.
“The addition of new dugouts, a locker room for the kids, along with so many other baseball-related equipment, should excite not only our returning players but our future Royals baseball players,” Butler said.
Butler also said the possibility of hosting the 2027 10th Region Baseball Tournament would be significant for the program and the community. It would also be a great opportunity for the Mason County players if the Royals were to qualify for the tournament.
“Being in line to host the 2027 Regional Baseball Tournament is huge for Mason County baseball,” Butler said. “It will provide a great experience for our kids, our community and for all teams that qualify for the region tournament. Maysville is a great town, great community to host outside teams and guests that will make the trip to our complex and our city/county.”
The softball field is expected to host the regional tournament in 2030 when the 39th District chooses the site (this year, the 39th District chose Bracken County). The baseball field could host next year in 2027 as the 39th District gets to host (the 38th District chose Harrison County this year).
