The Bishop Brossart ‘Stangs came into the season with the most depth on paper and the ‘Stangs have lived up to the expectations with another undefeated week.
1. Bishop Brossart (9-0)
The ‘Stangs continued their hot start to the season with two region wins this week, including a breakthrough 3-0 win over Scott on Wednesday, snapping a six-game losing streak in the series dating back to the 2022 region championship game.
In the win over Pendleton County on Thursday, Evelyn Laker had 15 kills and Callie Ritter had 14 kills and three blocks with setter Aubrey Rebholz recording 25 assists. Audrey Arnold had eight digs and nine aces with Grace Frommeyer digging up seven balls. Laker served five aces as the ‘Stangs had 23 in the region win. Jayna Wilson and Ritter served three aces each with Leah Robinson blocking three balls.
Brossart hosts Campbell County on Tuesday.
2. George Rogers Clark (7-2)
The Cardinals moved up to the second spot with a road win over district rival Montgomery County before returning home to beat Madison Central. Addison Palmer has led the team on defense with Eva Walker aiding there. Setter Anna Cooper distributes balls nicely to Brooke Gough, Amy McCormick, Mackenzie Cowles and Raleigh Hollis.
GRC is 2-0 in district seed play and in the driver’s seat for the top seed in the district tournament. The Cardinals have a tough week at home against Lexington Catholic on Tuesday then a district seed game against Bourbon County on Wednesday.
3. Montgomery County (8-5)
The Indians had their struggles in pool play at the September Slam at Scott. They won the first set against Newport Central Catholic using their size with seven hitters at 5-11 and taller. However, the Throughbreds came back to win 2-1 (21-13, 11-21, 10-15) with aggressive serving. The Indians did come back to beat Scott and Campbell County to finish the tournament.
When in system, Meredith Miles has done a good job distributing the ball to the likes of Erin Fawns, Ava Hudson, Anna Allison, Kinley Auxier and Baylee Warner. Libero Sophie Fouch and Hudson lead the Indians on defense.
Montgomery County travels to Raceland on Thursday.
4. Calvary Christian (10-3)
The Cougars moved up several spots with two wins last week, including a home win over Bracken County.
In that win over Bracken County, sophomore libero Madison Stelzer had 18 digs and Ava Dahler had 10. Natalia McGlynn had 13 assists, five kills, six aces and seven digs. Megan Arthur had 14 kills and five aces.
Calvary has a tough home game Tuesday against Newport Central Catholic.
5. Bracken County (8-2)
The Bears struggled on the road Monday, but came back to beat Mason County and St. Patrick’s in district action.
Against St. Pat’s, Rees Hargett had 27 assists with Isabella Godman and Halle Routt recording 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Libero Aleigha Leist had 18 digs with Kyndall Johnson serving three aces.
Bracken County travels to Augusta on Tuesday.
6. Paris (4-1)
Paris pulled off a tight 3-2 win over Mason County in the lone game last week. Emmalyn Ogden asserted herself at the net with 21 kills with Gabrielle Gardner recording 12 and Rose Hayden, 10. Mia Mason recorded 23 assists and Molly Mason had 22. Angie Romero led Paris with 22 digs and Molly Mason had 10 with Emma Morris and Anaiya Hayden digging up nine balls each.
Paris travels to Nicholas County on Tuesday.
7. Bourbon County (10-3)
The Colonels won both games last week including a home region win over Augusta.
Libero Izzy Jett leads Bourbon County on defense with Kinley Kearns running a good offense. Katie Abner, Hayli Burberry and Gia Griffin have been consistent at the net for the Colonels. Claire Davis has also provided nice play on defense.
Bourbon County travels to Fleming County on Tuesday.
8. Harrison County (6-3)
The Fillies won both games this week against Fleming County and Frankfort.
They travel to Pendleton County on Tuesday.
9. Campbell County (3-7)
The Camels found some footing last week with two wins including one over Scott in the September Slam.
In that win over Scott, Amerie Mullins had 10 kills and Chloe Hershey had six. Kayden Kramer led the Camels with eight assists and Addison Rice had two aces.
10. Augusta (7-3)
The Panthers put together a 2-1 week with wins over Lewis County and Nicholas County.
In the loss Monday to Bourbon County, Kyleigh Kirk had 11 assists and Aryanna Davis had a team-high seven kills. Davis and Kahghan Hinson had two aces each with Hinson also putting up seven assists.
11. Scott (2-10)
The Eagles struggled this week dropping all seven games, including all five in the annual September Slam.
They’ll try to bounce back at Boone County on Tuesday.
12. Mason County (5-7)
The Royals dropped a tight one against Paris and to Bracken County.
In the loss to Paris, Karsyn Dotson had 18 assists with Darcy Fields and Emmy Henderson recording 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Raylee Dotson had 24 digs with Reagan Workman and Hayley Allison recording 22 and 21 digs, respectively.
Mason County travels to Nicholas County on Wednesday.
13. Nicholas County (2-5)
The Jackets beat St. Patrick’s on Tuesday before losing to Augusta on Wednesday.
Allison Reid continues to run the offense with Loralee Orazan leading the way on offense. A number of others such as Madelyn Amburgey are trying to give Nicholas County balance. Orazan and Abby McNabb lead the way on defense.
Nicholas County hosts Paris on Tuesday.
14. Robertson County (1-7)
The Devils earned their first win of the season with a 3-1 win at Pendleton County on Tuesday.
Addisston Flack led Robertson County with 11 kills and Peyton Jolly had seven. Flack also had nine aces.
Robertson County travels to Menifee County on Wednesday.
15. Pendleton County (1-5)
The Cats dropped both games last week. In the loss to Robertson County, Kylie Dunn and Alayna Gosney had 11 kills each. Elizabeth Ammerman added 12 assists and Madison Gosney had eight aces. Allieona Sweigart, Madison Gosney and Hadley Spaulding had 16, 15 and 12 digs, respectively for the Cats.
Pendleton County hosts Harrison County on Tuesday.
16. St. Patrick’s (3-9)
The Saints lost both games last week. They travel to Bath County on Tuesday.
