The expected top teams in the region put out some big wins, but there have also been some surprises as well.

1. Bishop Brossart (4-0)

The ‘Stangs have come out of the gate rolling like expected. Senior 6-2 middle blocker Callie Ritter and Evelyn Laker lead the way with 42 kills each and experienced senior setter Aubrey Rebholz has 100 assists. Libero Grace Frommeyer leads the way with 86 digs and Audrey Arnold has a team-high 13 aces. Ritter also has 13 blocks with nine solo ones.

Brossart has plenty of offensive balance with Hailey Heitker tallying 15 kills then Leah Robinson and Emma Sheanshang recording 10 each and Arnold recording nine.

Bishop Brossart hosts Gallatin County on Tuesday.

2. Montgomery County (4-0)

The Indians finished the week with impressive wins over Scott, Rowan County and a nailbiting 3-2 win at Paris in a 40th District seed game.

Five different players have at least 21 kills for the Indians. Erin Fawns leads Montgomery County with 49 kills and 11 aces with Ava Hudson recording 39 kills, 10 aces and 41 digs. Kinley Auxier, Anna Allison and Baylee Warner have 32, 30 and 21 kills, respectively. Meredith Miles has 140 assists and Warner has a team-high 18 blocks.

Montgomery County hosts Madison Central on Tuesday.

3. George Rogers Clark (3-2)

The Cardinals started the season with a loss to Henry Clay before going 3-1 in the Seeds for Success Tournament at Fleming County.

GRC travels to Bourbon County for a crucial district seed game Tuesday.

4. Bourbon County (6-1)

The Colonels started the season with three wins including a tight 3-2 home win over Nicholas County, before going 3-1 in the Seeds for Success Tournament at Fleming County.

In the win over Nicholas County, setter Kinley Kearns had 44 assists with Katie Abner pounding out 28 kills to go with six aces. Hayli Burberry and Gia Griffin had nine and seven kills, respectively. Izzy Jett and Claire Davis led the Colonels defensively with 14 digs each. Kearns added 13 digs and Isabella Macias had 12.

Bourbon County hosts George Rogers Clark in a key district seed game Tuesday.

5. Bracken County (6-1)

The Bears have started off strong after going 3-1 in the Ludlow Classic. Senior setter Rees Hargett has set up the offense well with Sophia Bachman and Isabella Godman leading on offense. Aleigha Leist has also provided nice support on defense.

Bracken County travels to Bourbon County on Thursday.

6. Paris (2-1)

The Hounds knocked off host Calvary Christian, 2-0 (25-19, 25-19) on Monday following a tough 3-2 loss to Montgomery County on Thursday, which Paris led 23-22 in the fourth set.

The 6-2 sophomore middle Emmalyn Ogden has 30 kills on the season and 6-1 Gabby Gardner has 20 with Rose Hayden adding 14. Mia Mason has 44 assists, 13 kills, eight aces and 16 digs. Molly Mason has 30 digs and 12 kills.

Paris hosts Fleming County on Thursday.

7. Calvary Christian (6-2)

The Cougars won the Ludlow Classic to start the season after opening with a loss at Highlands.

Madison Stelzer has unsurprisingly led the Cougars on defense. Ava Dahler has given the team sound all-around play with Natalia McGlynn leading in assists. Annabel Leach has also led on defense.

Calvary Christian travels to Grant County on Tuesday.

8. Scott (1-2)

The Eagles got their first win Monday with a 3-0 victory over Lloyd Memorial. Scott lost to Walton-Verona and Montgomery County to start the season.

Scott travels to Dixie Heights on Thursday.

9. Harrison County (1-1)

The Fillies lost to Henry Clay but beat Augusta in the first week. They host Villa Madonna on Tuesday.

10. Campbell County (0-2)

The Camels dropped a tough 3-1 home decision to Campbell County to start the season before losing 2-0 Monday to state power Notre Dame.

Against Simon Kenton, senior Chloe Hershey led the Camels with 14 kills, 15 digs and three aces in her first varsity action in two seasons. Kayden Kramer and Adalyn Bertsch had 20 assists each. Amerie Mullins and Kendyl Hartman followed with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

Campbell County hits the road for the first time Tuesday at Highlands.

11. Mason County (3-4)

The Royals won two region games after opening the season with a loss to Bourbon County then going 1-3 in the Seeds for Success Tournament at Fleming County.

Karsyn Dotson has 95 assists to lead the Royals with Reagan Workman recording a team-high 38 kills to go with 58 digs. Kate Davenport and Raylee Dotson have 69 and 63 digs, respectively. Darcy Fields and Emmy Henderson followed with 24 and 21 kills, respectively and Mylie Padgett has 19.

Mason County hosts Robertson County on Tuesday.

12. Augusta (3-2)

The Panthers opened the season with a loss to Harrison County, but went 3-1 in the Ludlow Classic.

Augusta travels to St. Patrick on Tuesday.

13. Nicholas County (0-3)

The Jackets may have opened with three losses, but they have been tight. Senior setter Allison Reid has put hitters like Abby McNabb and Loralee Orazen in position to succeed. Abby McNabb, Brinlee Fryman and Marlee Beaty have made nice contributions on defense.

Nicholas County travels to Fleming County on Tuesday.

14. Pendleton County (1-1)

The Cats beat St. Patrick, but lost to Mason County to start the season.

Kylie Dunn has 15 kills and 17 blocks to lead the way and Allieona Sweigart has 23 digs. Hadley Spaulding has 19 assists, seven aces and nine digs with Elizabeth Ammerman recording 15 assists and nine kills.

15. St. Patrick (2-6)

The Saints knocked off Holmes to snap a six-game losing streak Monday. In the season-opening win over Robertson County, Mia Neeley had 10 kills and Hope Comer had 13 assists.

16. Robertson County (0-3)

The Devils dropped their first three games in Kelsey Turner’s debut as head coach.

Robertson County travels to Mason County on Tuesday.
