Both 10th Region All “A” Classic semifinals and finals were played in Bracken County on Saturday. Bishop Brossart won the baseball tournament in Augusta and Bracken County won the softball title in Brooksville.

Baseball

Bishop Brossart won their first All “A” Classic title since 2019. They defeated Augusta 12-0 in the semifinals on Saturday in Augusta. The Mustangs had 12 hits and walked 5 times. That combined with 4 Augusta errors gave them the win in 5 innings. Isaac Amin, Ben Volmer, and Keegan Gulley all had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Gulley had two home runs and Amin had one homer. Alex Noe threw a complete game shutout with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk, giving up 5 hits. Maddox Hesler led Augusta with 3 hits. Keeton Bach was the losing pitcher for the Panthers.

Brossart would go on to defeat Paris 11-1 in the championship in five innings. The Mustangs only had 5 hits, 2 from Ben Volmer, but were walked 9 times. Volmer threw a complete game on the mound, only giving up one run – a homer to Dexter Leverett in the bottom of the 5th inning.

The Mustangs will play in the All “A” Classic sectional at 9th Region winner Beechwood on Wednesday, April 16th. The winner will face either Sayre or Danville at the state tournament in Owensboro at Daviess County High School. The eight-team state tournament will take place April 26th and 27th, Saturday and Sunday.

Softball

The Lady Bears defeated Bishop Brossart 9-5 in the quarterfinals on Friday. Kyndall Johnson’s grand slam in the bottom of the 5th helped give the Lady Bears the win in Brooksville.  Johnson had 3 hits and Savannah Kelsch had 3 as well. 

In the semifinals on Saturday, Bracken County put up 10 runs in the 5th and 6th innings to short-game the Lady Greyhounds 13-1.  The Lady Bears hit 4 home runs and Kyndall Johnson’s homer went over 275 feet.  Addyson Tucker pitched all six innings giving up 5 hits and 1 run. 

In their second game Saturday, the Lady Bears won their fourth straight 10th Region All “A” Classic title by beating the Lady Jackets 18-0 in the championship.  Although Kyndall Johsnon was intentionally walked three straight times, the rest of the Lady Bears picked up the offense.  They collected a total 20 hits and nobody struck out.  Whitney Lippert hit two home runs and Ella Burton hit one.  

The Lady Bears will play in the state tournament in Owensboro’s Jack Fisher Park on April 26th and April 27th if they advance.  They will play three games in pool play on Saturday, April 26th at 8:30, 1:30, and 5:00 central time against the 6th, 13th, and 14th region winners. The top two pool play teams will advance to the eight-team bracket on Sunday.
