With the way the season has been playing out, the big question is if any team can beat the Bishop Brossart ‘Stangs. It may not be impossible, but the senior duo of setter Aubrey Rebholz and 6-2 middle Callie Ritter to go with versatile all-around sophomore outside hitter Evelyn Laker makes the ‘Stangs a matchup nightmare.
1. Bishop Brossart (26-2)
The ‘Stangs finished 7-1 last week driving all the way to the championship game of the First Priority Volleyball Classic and losing 2-0 to 13th Region favorite Whitley County. Bishop Brossart continues to receive good support from the likes of Josie Reckner, Emma Sheanshang, Audrey Arnold, Claire Decker, Leah Robinson, Hailey Heitker and Grace Frommeyer.
Bishop Brossart travels to Beechwood on Tuesday for a quick rematch of the All “A” State semifinals.
2. George Rogers Clark (14-6)
The Cardinals won both games over Paris to move to 4-0 in district seed play then beat Breathitt County at home on Thursday. In the win over Breathitt County, Elayna Swart had 10 kills and Brooke Gough recorded nine with setter Anna Cooper tallying 30 assists. Chloe Williams led GRC with three aces with Swart and Cooper recording 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
GRC hosts Montgomery County on Tuesday in another 40th District seed game.
3. Montgomery County (19-10)
The Indians won both district seed games to move to 3-2 in district seed play. They finished runner-up to Sayre in the Dink Scott Memorial Tournament going 4-1. In the win over Trinity Christian on Saturday, Meredith Miles had 20 assists and Erin Fawns led the way with nine kills. Sophie Fouch had 15 digs and Ava Hudson had nine. Kylee Schultz led Montgomery County with four aces.
Montgomery County travels to George Rogers Clark for a huge 40th District seed game on Tuesday.
4. Calvary Christian (17-4)
The Cougars won all three games last week including a 3-2 nail-biter against Walton-Verona on Wednesday. In the win over the home school Cincinnati Trailblazers, Megan Arthur had 16 kills. Natalia McGlynn had 18 assists, four aces and 12 digs and Annabel Leach had 10 assists. Madison Stelzer and Ava Dahler followed with 12 digs each.
Calvary Christian travels to Campbell County on Monday for an important 7 p.m. 37th District seed game.
5. Bourbon County (13-9)
The Colonels beat Pendleton County and Mason County after dropping a game at Montgomery County on Monday. In the loss to the Indians, Gia Griffin had 12 kills and Bentlee Durham had seven with Kinley Kearns recording 25 assists and Isabella Macias had three aces.
Bourbon County travels to Madison Southern on Monday for a 6:30 p.m. game.
6. Paris (7-4)
The Hounds dropped the two district seed games against GRC and Montgomery County last week. In the loss to Montgomery County, Molly Mason had 11 kills, 12 assists and 19 digs and Gabrielle Gardner had seven kills, nine assists, 15 digs and two blocks. Anaiya Hayden had 19 digs and three blocks with Angie Romero and Emma Morris recording 23 and 20 digs, respectively.
Paris hosts Nicholas County on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
7. Campbell County (7-14)
The Camels went 1-1 last week edging Dixie Heights before losing to Holy Cross (Covington). In that loss, Amerie Mullins had 11 kills and two blocks with Chloe Hershey recording seven kills and eight digs. Kayden Kramer recorded 14 assists with Ariana Rice tallying two aces.
Campbell County hosts Calvary Christian on Monday in an important 37th District game at 7 p.m.
8. Harrison County (13-8)
The Fillies finished 4-3 last week going 2-2 in the Fillies Fall Fling on Saturday. That included a win over Bracken County on Thursday.
Harrison County hosts Nicholas County on Monday at 7:45 p.m.
9. Bracken County (11-7)
The Bears went 5-3 last week including a 3-2 showing in the Fillies Fall Fling on Saturday. In the loss to Fleming County on Saturday, Isabella Godman had seven kills and eight digs with Rees Hargett recording 12 assists. Libero Aleigha Leist led the Bears with nine digs.
Bracken County travels to Mason County for a 7:30 p.m. game Monday.
10. Scott (6-20)
The Eagles pulled off two wins last week. Jacinda Campbell has gone over 100 kills on the season with Shelby White and Cassidy Ennis doing the setting. Emory Sullivan continues to lead Scott in digs and aces.
Scott travels one mile south to Calvary Christian on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
11. Augusta (15-8)
The Panthers finished 4-3 last week to hit the 15-win mark on the season. In the loss to Bracken County in the Fillies Fall Fling on Saturday, Aryanna Davis had eight kills and two aces with Kyleigh Kirk recording 10 assists. Adalen Gilliam added eight digs.
12. Mason County (11-9)
The Royals finished 2-1 last week including a 3-2 win over St. Patrick’s on Friday. In that win over St. Patrick’s, Karsyn Dotson had 36 assists and 12 digs with Hayley Allison recording 32 digs and five aces. Raylee Dotson had 30 digs with Emmy Henderson tallying 12 kills and two blocks and Mylie Padgett had 13 kills. Reagan Workman and Aaliyah Burns had 19 and 11 digs, respectively.
Mason County hosts Bracken County on Monday in a 7:30 p.m. 39th District seed game.
13. Nicholas County (8-7)
The Jackets won all three games last week to move above .500. In the win over Menifee County, Loralee Orazen had 12 kills with Allison Reid tallying 19 assists, 15 aces and 10 digs. Ada-Layne Allison added 19 aces.
Nicholas County travels to Harrison County on Monday for a 7:45 p.m. game.
14. St. Patrick’s (9-14)
The Saints went 4-3 last week. They continue to be lead by Mia Neeley.
They travel to Community Christian in Independence on Monday at 7 p.m.
15. Robertson County (2-14)
The Devils dropped all three games last week. In the loss to Nicholas County on Thursday, Addiston Flack had nine kills and two aces with Peyton Jolly recording eight kills. Abigail Monroe had eight assists and two aces with Adielynn Turner recording seven assists.
Robertson County hosts Pendleton County on Monday at 7 p.m.
16. Pendleton County (1-17)
The Cats lost all six games last week including four in the Fillies Fall Fling on Saturday. In the loss to Bracken County on Saturday, Hadley Spaulding had 19 digs.
Pendleton County travels to Robertson County on Monday at 7 p.m.
