10thRegion.com has selected Landon Scilley from Mason County as the inaugural “Mr. 10th Region.” This award will be given to a senior in the 10th Region who has excelled in two or more sports. Scilley played football, basketball, and baseball for the Royals.
The Mason County football team had a record of 6-5 this past season. Scilley led the team with 37 receptions for 822 yards. He caught 12 touchdown passes and averaged 91.3 receiving yards per game. He was also 2 for 2 in passing with 133 yards and a touchdown.
The Royals basketball team had a 21-12 record in 2023-24. Scilley was the team’s third-leading scorer and second in total rebounds with 318 points and 144 rebounds — he averaged 9.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. The team won the 39th District title and made it to the 10th Region semifinals.
The Mason County baseball team had a historic season, winning their first 10th Region Championship since 1994. At the plate, Scilley had 105 at-bats with 42 hits, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 34 RBIs, and stole 32 of 35 bases. He led the team with a .400 batting average. In their three regional tournament games, he went 6 for 10 with 3 walks.
Scilley topped out in the low 90s on the mound. He threw 63 innings with a 2.44 ERA. He struck out 103 batters and had a WHIP just over 1.00. He pitched 6 innings in Mason County’s win over Harrison County in the region tournament — he gave up 3 runs and struck out 11.
For his outstanding pitching, hitting, and defensive season, Landon Scilley was named 10thRegion.com’s Baseball Player of the Year and was named second-team all-state. He is committed to play baseball at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
