ALEXANDRIA, Ky. — Campbell County captured its first 10th Region baseball championship since 2022 on Sunday, defeating Montgomery County 2-0 at Bishop Brossart’s Mustang Athletic Complex (MAC) behind another shutout pitching performance and a two-run first inning.

The Camels have been perfect on the bump in the postseason, throwing five straight shutouts at the MAC starting with the district tournament. Campbell County is the first team in history to shut out all three opponents in the 10th Region Baseball Tournament (since 1986). Their three pitchers, Trip Mecurio, Tyler Schumacher, and Lucas Anthrop, combined for 21 IP, 9 hits, 7 walks, and 24 strikeouts.

The Camels scored all the runs they needed in the bottom of the 1st. Jackson Bittner opened the inning with a single before Gavin Kramer doubled down the right-field line to bring him home. Camden Tiemeier followed with a single to left, scoring Kramer and giving Campbell County a 2-0 lead. Campbell County had three hits in the 1st inning, and did not have a hit for the rest of the game.

Lucas Anthrop made the early lead hold up. He earned the win after throwing six scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out seven, walking five and hitting one batter. Trip Mercurio worked the 7th inning for the save, getting Brody Roland to fly out to right field with two runners in scoring position to end the game.

Montgomery County had chances throughout but could not break through. The Indians stranded nine runners and had runners reach scoring position in six innings, including having runners on second and third in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Kramer, Tiemeier, Bittner and Gino Ramundo each had one hit for Campbell County. Kramer and Tiemeier drove in one run apiece. Poe led Montgomery County with two hits and also reached twice by walk.

Evan Copher took the loss for Montgomery County, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked three.

Abe Mullins, Brody Roland, and Rex Turner were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Indians. For the Camels, it was Lucas Anthrop, Tyler Schumacher, Gavin Kramer, and Trip Mecurio.

Montgomery County is now 1-9 in 10th Region title games, finishing as back-to-back runners-up. The Camels win their fifth 10th Region title and first since 2022 (2016, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2026).

Campbell County improved to 25-13 and advanced to the state tournament, where it will face LaRue County on Friday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at Lexington Legends Field. Montgomery County finished the season 30-8.
