Logan Woosley, who was coming off of a career high 23 points against Villa, failed to score a point in the first quarter, and only 5 by halftime.
However. not to fear, Wooz exploded for 19 second half points and topped his previous career high for the second time in three days with 24 points that included 7 of 7 from the charity stripe.
In all, five Mustangs scored double-figures in a run and shoot fest that saw the Mustangs lead 14-13 after a period, and 38-35 at the half.
Whatever Coach Franzen told the guys at halftime, he needs to bottle and sell it, as we burst out to a 9-0 run to start he second half, opening up a 47-35 bulge.
But, the Wildcats would not go quietly into the night, cutting the Mustangs advantage to 69-67 with 3:02 remaining in the game. To our credit, our veteran ball club maintained their focus, and outscored the visitors 12-8 for the remainder of the contest to win our second game in three days, this one an 81-75 NKAC Div II win over Newport.
In addition to Woosley, Mason Sepate scored 13 with 9 made free throws in 9 attempts. Brandon Bezold put up 12 including a trio of 3 pointers, Luke Schumacher added 11, and Anthony Kruse with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
There will be little time to celebrate, as we have a date with another conference opponent, Holmes, in less than 24 hours in the David Evans Memorial Fieldhouse.
