From Montgomery County Schools:
Montgomery County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Dustin Lueker as the new district athletic director. The Montgomery County Board of Education recently approved this position to strengthen and unify the district’s athletic programs. Mr. Lueker will oversee all high school and district athletics in this newly created role.
Mr. Lueker has been a valued educator at Montgomery County High School for the past seven years. Since 2020, he has served as an assistant coach for the MCHS Girls’ Basketball Program and has held the assistant athletic director position under Mr. Austin Maples for the last four years.
As assistant athletic director, Mr. Lueker has played a vital role in the success and smooth operation of the district’s athletic programs. From organizing and running events like the Gateway Holiday Classic to working closely with KHSAA on compliance issues and bylaws, he brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new position.
“Dustin‘s love for all things Montgomery County is easily seen in his work on behalf of students, staff, families, and this community. He is an incredibly hard worker, and I know he will continue to build on the foundation that Austin Maples has laid over the last four years and our other athletic directors before that,” said Superintendent Matt Thompson. “Dustin understands the role that athletics plays in our schools and community, along with the opportunities that it gives our student athletes to extend their academic learning beyond high school graduation at the collegiate level.”
Montgomery County High School Principal Holly Lawson also praised Lueker’s appointment:
“I am thrilled that Dustin Lueker will serve as our new Director of Athletics. Dustin has already made a tremendous impact as assistant athletic director, math teacher, and assistant girls’ basketball coach. His deep passion for athletics and commitment to student success make him the perfect fit for this position. I’m extremely excited to see the direction he will take our athletic program and the positive influence he will have on our student-athletes and school community.”
Before joining Montgomery County Schools, Mr. Lueker held several academic and leadership roles at the University of Kentucky, including instructor, peer training leader, senior academic coordinator, and lecturer.
Mr. Lueker’s strong ties to the community and school system are evident in his professional and personal life. He and his wife, Melissa, are raising their two children—James (10) and Molly (8)—in Montgomery County. His long-standing dedication to the district and its students, both in the classroom and athletics, continues to shape his commitment to excellence.
Reflecting on his new role, Mr. Lueker shared, “I am honored to accept the position of District Athletic Director. As a graduate of MCHS, a Mt. Sterling resident, and the parent of two children in the school system, I know what athletics mean to our school and community. I am excited for this new opportunity and look forward to supporting our student-athletes, coaches, and families while building programs that reflect our community’s dedication, integrity, and teamwork values.”
Montgomery County Schools congratulates Mr. Lueker on his new role and looks forward to the continued growth and excellence of the athletic programs under his leadership.
