Jake Feldhaus is transferring from Mason County to Madison Central. The now junior played golf and basketball for the Royals this past season.
Feldhaus averaged 13 points and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 60% from the floor. The Royals basketball team had a record of 21-12, winning the district title before losing in the regional semifinals to Harrison County.
Feldhaus is also a two-time second team all-state golfer and regional player of the year. He helped Mason County to a regional and 2A sectional title and finished tied for 16th place in last season’s state golf championship. He has also been competing in the American Junior Golf Association. He recently scored top five in the AJGA leading to a full exemption for open AJGA tournaments.
Madison Central’s basketball team finished 10-23 last season, losing in the first round of the 11th Region Tournament. Their golf team won back-to-back state championships last fall.
Jake is the son of Deron Feldhaus. Deron played basketball at Mason County from 1984-1987, helping his team to regional championships in 1985 and 1987. He finished his career with 1,937 points before playing basketball in Kentucky from 1989 to 1992. While at Kentucky, he scored 1,232 points and made it to the 1992 Elite Eight as one of the Unforgettables. He was named Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year in 1987 and had his jersey retired at Mason County. He was inducted into the UK Hall of Fame in 2005.
Jake’s uncle is Allen Feldhaus, Jr., who has been the head coach at Madison Central since 1993. The Indians won the 2013 state title. Feldhaus has over 700 wins and counting. Allen Jr. played at Mason County from 1979 to 1981, scoring 1,234 points. He led Mason County to their first Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1981, but they lost in the state finals to Simon Kenton.
Deron and Allen Jr.’s middle brother Willie played on the 1982 Mason County team that went 30-0 heading into the state tournament before losing in the second round.
Jake is the grandson of Allen Feldhaus, Sr. Allen coached Mason County for 16 seasons from 1976 to 1991 and won 325 games. He played for Adolph Rupp at Kentucky from 1958 to 1962. He also played baseball while at UK.
