CARLISLE, Ky. — Bracken County scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday to beat Bishop Brossart 9-8 on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Rees Hargett in the 10th Region All “A” Classic championship game. The win gave Bracken County their fifth straight title and a trip to Owensboro. It is their ninth title overall (2005, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2022-2026).

The Lady Bears defeated Nicholas County 14-4 and Bishop Brossart beat Paris 15-2 in the semifinals. Bracken County will play in the statewide tournament at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro on April 25-26. On Saturday, they will play in a pool with Livingston Central, Lexington Christian, and Belfry. Bracken County started the seventh trailing 8-7. Macy Beckett singled, Kyndall Johnson followed with a single, and Jenna Colvin tied the game with a bunt single that also brought home a run on an error. After Jordan Ahrens was intentionally walked, Hargett hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Johnson with the winning run.

Bishop Brossart scored first in the top of the first inning on Rachel Shewmaker’s sacrifice fly. Bracken County answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Johnson led off with a double and later scored on Colvin’s single. Ahrens added an RBI double, and Presley Johnson hit a two-run single to put Bracken County ahead 4-1.

Bishop Brossart took the lead in the second. Avery Wietholter hit a two-run triple, Cayce Merkley drove in a run on a groundout, and another run scored on an error as the Mustangs moved in front 5-4.

Bishop Brossart added one run in the third when Wietholter doubled home Ava Freppon to make it 6-4. In the bottom half, Ella Burton hit a solo home run for Bracken County to cut the lead to 6-5.

The Mustangs scored two more runs in the fourth. Ella Walerius had an RBI double and Kayleigh Stadelmann followed with an RBI single for an 8-5 lead. Bracken County got one run back in the bottom of the inning on Hargett’s RBI single to make it 8-6.

Neither team scored in the fifth. In the sixth, Bracken County pulled within 8-7 when Ahrens tripled and Johnson scored on the play. That set up the two-run seventh inning.

Johnson led Bracken County at the plate, going 4 for 4. Colvin had three hits, while Ahrens and Hargett each drove in two runs. Burton also homered for the Lady Bears. Hargett went the full seven innings for the win.

Wietholter led Bishop Brossart by going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Tessa Wells, Leah Robinson, and Walerius each had two hits. Bishop Brossart finished with 11 hits in the game.
