From the Augusta Athletic Department:

On Friday, January 31, the historic Augusta Gymnasium will be designated as a Glory Road Site by the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame (KHSBHF).  The KHSBHF is recognizing and honoring iconic gymnasiums across the state that have historical significance in the development of the cultural phenomenon of Kentucky high school basketball.

The event will coincide with a girl – boy doubleheader basketball game against district rival St. Patrick.  A brief ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the girls game.  There will be special programs commemorating the event and the gymnasium’s designation available for purchase for $10.

The following partners have sponsored this event: Augusta Independent Education Foundation, Blue Collar Barbell, Bracken Co. Magistrates – Debbie Mayfield / Sandy Ruf, New Growth, Moore and Parker Funeral Homes, and Big Daddy Walker Productions.

Built in 1926, the historic Augusta Gymnasium is believed to be the oldest operating high school gym in the state of Kentucky.
