Baseball and softball district tournaments in the 10th Region got started on Saturday. Here is a quick recap:
Baseball
Region Tournament field: Campbell County, Scott, Harrison County, Nicholas County, Bracken County.

The Eagles topped the Mustangs in a back-and-forth matchup in the first round of the 37th District semifinals.
Top 2nd
Groneck started in the top of the second (Scott was the away team on their home field as the third seed), and Pulsfort followed with an RBI single. A sacrifice bunt from Hutson moved Pulsfort to second, and a single from Grindstaff scored their second run. Scott 2, Bishop Brossart 0.
Bottom 2nd
Burkhart and Geiman were both hit by pitches, putting two on with no outs. Scott made a change at pitcher. Ian Frank laid down a bunt to first that was overthrown to third scoring both runs. Scott 2, Bishop Brossart 2.
Top 3rd
Dylan Giffen started Scott with a lead-off walk. Back-to-back singles from Sparks and Bleha gave Scott the lead again. Scott 3, Bishop Brossart 2.
Bottom 3rd
Alex Amin started things off with a double. Then Brossart’s designated hitter Ben Volmer homered, putting the Mustangs back in the lead. Bishop Brossart 4, Scott 3.
Top 4th
Hutson started with a single for Scott, followed by a sac bunt from Stretch. Smith hit a comebacker up the middle that hit Brossart pitcher Alex Noe. Two throwing errors followed, allowing Hutson to score. Scott 4, Bishop Brossart 4.
Bottom 4th
Isaac Amin started with a one-out double. Following was a single from Luke Bertsch, which advanced Amin to third, and Bertsch was thrown out, advancing to second. Keegan Gulley singled, and Alex Amin walked. The baserunning proved costly, leaving the score tied at four.
Top 5th
Gunner Bleha and Groneck singled with one out, setting up Trevor Pulsfort’s bases-clearing, scoring two runs. Scott 6, Bishop Brossart 4.
Bottom 5th
German and Frank started with back-to-back two-out singles. Ben Doyle grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run. Brossart would be unable to score the two runners left in scoring position.
That would be the last run scored, and Scott (17-17) would defeat Bishop Brossart (11-18) by a score of 6-4.

The Thorobreds had a five run third inning, putting them up 5-0. Nicholas County would chip away at the lead. In the top of the seventh, Lincoln Morris hit a two-run home run to tie the game up. In the bottom half, Cliffy McIlvain would start things off with a single, followed by a double from Jashon Lewis. Mason Smiley would intentionally walk, bringing up Corey Vaughn with the bases loaded. Vaughn would single down the third base line, giving the ‘Breds the walk-off victory. Harrison moves to 23-7, Nicholas drops to 16-16.
