The Lexington Herald-Leader released its preseason statewide basketball poll on Friday. The poll was sent out to all coaches to rank their top teams and players in the state. The full rankings are linked below.

Boys Basketball Team Rankings
George Rogers Clark comes in at No. 4 in the state according to the boys basketball coaches. St. Xavier out of Louisville came in at No. 1, followed by Frederick Douglass and then Covington Catholic. Madison Central, led by Jake Feldhaus, is 5th.

Boys Basketball Player Rankings
Reece Davidson of North Laurel is ranked as the best player in the state in what will be a highly competitive Mr. Basketball race. Jake Feldhaus (Madison Central) comes in as second best. At No. 10 and 14 are Montez Gay and Malachi Ashford. Tyce Jarvis (Montgomery County) is 19th. Andrew Terry of Montgomery County and Austin Davie of Campbell County are honorable mentions.

Girls Basketball Team Rankings
It’s two familiar faces at the top with Sacred Heart at No. 1 and George Rogers Clark at No. 2. Sacred Heart loses ZaKiyah Johnson who is averaging 13.7 ppg at LSU as a freshman. The Lady Cardinals return two Division 1 guards with Kennedy Stamper and Teigh Yeast.

Girls Basketball Player Rankings
Coaches have Kennedy Stamper as the second-best player in the state and Teigh Yeast as the fourth-best. Maggie Simons of Nicholas County is 12th.
