MT. OLIVET — Bracken County defeated Nicholas County 13-3 and Bishop Brossart 5-4 to win their second straight All “A” title.
Bracken County got on the board in the top half of the first vs. Bishop Brossart in championship game after Gordley reached on an error and Ahrens hit a single to score her.
In the top of the second, Bracken scored again to make it a 3-0 lead. Maddie Johnson singled, and Kyndall Johnson reached on an error. Then, Gordley was walked and which led to both runners scoring after Brossart’s miscues on defense.
After two innings of play, Bracken County led by three. Ella Johnson had struck out six Brossart batters so far, giving up only a single and a walk.
Brossart got on the board in the bottom of the third after a hit by pitch and a single with two outs on an errant throw.
In the top of the fourth, the Lady Bears would tack on another run. Lippert reached on an error, and Maddie Johnson singled. Ella Johnson singled to help herself out, scoring a run and leading 4-1.
Bishop Brossart would battle back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to make it a 4-3 game after a homerun and back-to-back singles.
The Lady Bears added an extra insurance run in the top of the seventh after a lead-off walk. Bess reached on an error to make the score 5-3.
Brossart started off the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off single. After getting one out, the Lady Stangs would single, scoring the runner to make it a one-run game and the tying run aboard.
However, Ella Johnson would strikeout the next batter and induce a ground out to win the 10th Region All “A” Classic for the second straight year.
This is Bracken County’s sixth All “A” title, winning in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2022, and 2023.
They move on to play in the statewide tournament in Owensboro on April 29th and 30th with three games of pool play before the tournament.
