Lackluster openers set up blockbuster semifinal in 10th Tourney
Big blowouts and smaller than usual crowds is the story of the first round of the 10th Region Boys Basketball Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. The first four games had a running clock (35+ points) with two teams hitting the century mark.
Wednesday:
Mason County 107, Nicholas County 56
Campbell County 83, Paris 50
Thursday:
George Rogers Clark 108, Augusta 53
Harrison County 48, Scott 35
LACKLUSTER OPENERS
The average margin of victory of the games was 38 points. It is the largest average victory margin in the first round of 10th Region Tournament history. It is also the first time two teams have scored 100 in the first round. Mason County and George Rogers Clark almost broke the record for most points scored in a tournament game. Mason County scored 109 points in 1994.
The best game so far has been Harrison County and Scott, which was a 13-point game.
BLOCKBUSTER SEMIFINALS
This is the first time since 2014 that all district champions won in the first round and will play in the semifinals. The consensus entering March was that the Royals, Camels, Cardinals, and Thorobreds were the top four teams in the region. All four teams will now move in to the semifinals on Monday night.
