No surprise here … everyone’s chasing GRC. Addison Terry and Maggie Simons did their thing in Mt. Sterling last week.

When assembling my first girls’ 10th Region rankings of the 2025-2026 season for 10thRegion.com, the top five feel like a safe bet. GRC, even after their setback to top-ranked Assumption, remains a clear and confident No. 1. The target sits squarely on the backs of the four-time defending champs, and every team in the region knows it. The question isn’t whether someone can catch them… it’s whether anyone can even get close.

Spots 6 through 8 could easily shuffle from week to week, while 9 & 10 have clearly earned their place inside my top 10. I also have two teams tied, and their positions will take care of themselves on Saturday when they square off inside Earl Redwine Gymnasium. The final three spots remain solid based on head-to-head results.

On a side note… how about that Montgomery County vs. Nicholas County matchup last week in Mt. Sterling? A showdown between two top-five teams featuring two of the best players in the region, and the state. Let’s be honest: I watched the game, and the Lady Indians, leading by as much as 24 in the third, were in complete control until Coach Jordan Perry emptied his bench in the fourth quarter. That opened the door for Coach Reesa Martin’s squad, which erupted for 32 points in the final frame and battled back to within seven at the buzzer.

Even so, it didn’t overshadow the incredible individual performances on both sides. MoCo senior Addison Terry torched the nets for 42 points, drilling 10 threes, while Nicholas County junior Maggie Simons answered with a monster 49-point outing on 18-of-30 shooting. The two combined for a staggering 91 points.

Below is a look at my first girls’ 10th Region rankings of the season, along with some insight on each team. All player statistics are based on information submitted to the KHSAA website.

See the locations and dates of the district, regional, and state tournaments.

1. GEORGE ROGERS CLARK (9–2) – After navigating an already brutal schedule that only gets tougher from here, Coach Robbie Graham’s Lady Cardinals opened last week with an easy district win over Paris, snapping the Ladyhounds’ seven-game streak. GRC followed that with a heartbreaking triple-overtime loss in a hostile environment to top-ranked Assumption, a legitimate state-title contender. The two powerhouses could see each other again in two weeks in the semifinal round of the prestigious Louisville Invitational Tournament.

Tuesday night, Bourbon County visits Winchester for a 40th District matchup, and on Thursday the Lady Cards travel to Mt. Sterling to face rival Montgomery County, ranked No. 4 in this poll. On Sunday, they head to Pickerington, Ohio, to take on Example Academy (Frankfort, IL), followed by Kings Christian Collegiate (Oakville, ON) next Monday.

Three players, sophomore Kyleigh Chestnut (12.7 ppg), senior Teigh Yeast (12.4 ppg), and junior Kennedy Stamper (12.1 ppg), average double figures, but don’t let that fool you. This roster is deep, and on any given night someone new can step forward. That includes eighth grader Eliyah Strode, who adds 8.7 points and a team-best 5.1 rebounds per game.

2. CAMPBELL COUNTY (9-2) – The Lady Camels, riding a 7-game win streak, earned this spot after an impressive win over previously undefeated Bishop Brossart on the Lady Stangs home floor two weeks ago. Coach Davey Johnson’s team closed out last week with strong victories over Grant County, Bracken County, and North Laurel, one of the contenders in the 13th Region.

This week, Campbell County faces Mason County Monday, and on Friday they have a major opportunity to secure the top seed in the 37th District with a home win over Scott High. Johnson’s squad is led by senior Isabella Jayasuriya (15.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg) and sophomore Kendall Augsback (10.7 ppg).

3. BISHOP BROSSART (15–1) – Despite last week’s loss to current No. 2 Campbell County, Brossart’s overall resume keeps them locked into this spot. The Lady Stangs opened the season with 13 straight wins before falling at home to their district rival in a pivotal 37th District matchup. Coach Aaron Stamm’s team responded well, knocking off Highlands for the program’s first win over the Bluebirds in 12 years.

Brossart is competing in the 10th Region All “A” Classic this week. After defeating Augusta in Saturday’s opener, the Lady Stangs face host Bracken County Tuesday night. A win would send the defending champions back to Thursday’s title game, where they’ll be chasing their 15th All “A” crown. Their only other contest this week is a tough non-region test against 8th Region power Simon Kenton.

The Lady Stangs are led by sophomore standout Kylie Smith (18.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg), junior Greylee Kramer (12.5 ppg), and senior Rachel Shewmaker (8.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg).

4. MONTGOMERY COUNTY (8-4) – Coach Perry’s Lady Indians have taken on a demanding schedule, much like the teams ranked above them, and for good reason, with a major showdown against rival GRC at home on Thursday. Surrounding that key district matchup is a home game against a strong Menifee County squad Tuesday night, followed by a Saturday trip to Hazard.

MoCo opened 2026 with an instant classic, edging Nicholas County in a game that wasn’t quite as close as the final score suggested. The win was fueled by a remarkable performance from Terry, who knocked down 10 of 14 three-point attempts. That was followed by a loss to 16th Region contender Boyd County, after defeating the Lions over the holiday break.

The Lady Indians are led by senior Terry (20 ppg, 5.6 rpg), juniors Baylee Warner (13.6 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Elaine Purvis (13.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg), along with freshman Raegan Mays (10.1 ppg, 3 rpg).

5. NICHOLAS COUNTY (9-6) – Nicholas County, who lost both games played last week, is another team that leans heavily on its young talent, though they do feature a future Miss Kentucky Basketball candidate on the roster. Of the 11 players listed, nine are freshmen or younger, including five seventh graders, and not a single senior. Don’t let the youth surprise you. These kids can play, and with juniors Maggie Simons and Loralee Orazen leading the way, the Lady Jackets have earned their spot at No. 5.

Martin’s team will be back in action Monday in the All “A” Region semifinal against Paris, a team they defeated 64-38 last month. A win would send them to Thursday’s championship game, where No. 3 Bishop Brossart could be waiting. Nicholas then turns around for a key district matchup on Friday, traveling to face the team ranked just below them, Pendleton County.

Simons leads the Lady Jackets with 26 points and 7 rebounds per game. Seventh grader Zoe Brown adds 12.1 points per outing, while Orazen contributes 8 points and 4 rebounds. Eighth grader Sidney Sexton (6 ppg, 4.4 rpg) rounds out their top producers.

6. PENDLETON COUNTY (9-2) – Coach Patrick Kelsch’s Lady Cats capped last week with three straight wins. They opened with an easy victory over Bourbon County, followed that with a blowout district win against Robertson County, and closed the week by knocking off a solid Fleming County squad. Pendleton will play three more games this week, beginning Monday when Ludlow visits Falmouth. Tuesday, Beechwood makes the trip down US-27, and on Friday the Lady Cats host a key district showdown with No. 5 Nicholas County.

Four players are averaging double figures for Kelsch’s balanced group, led by senior Lilly Ashcraft at 16 points and 6 rebounds per game. Junior Hannah Spaulding adds 14.6 points and 8.1 boards, junior Selena Rarrieck contributes 11.1 points, and senior Laci Tackett chips in 10.6 points and 4 rebounds per outing.

7. SCOTT (6-9) – Talk about a brutal schedule. Coach Eric Pouncey’s Lady Eagles opened the season on the road at top-ranked GRC, a game they lost, and things haven’t eased up since. They fell to Notre Dame for the second time this season last Friday before bouncing back the next day with a win over Henry Clay at Frederick Douglass’ Crown The Court Classic.

The challenges keep coming this week. Scott is set to face 9th Region power Cooper Tuesday night, yes, the same Cooper squad that just knocked off the state’s previous No. 1 team, Sacred Heart. Then on Friday, the Lady Eagles will travel to No. 2 Campbell County.

Scott is led by sophomores Noelle Price (15.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and Sydney Richmond (13.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg).

8. MASON COUNTY (8-4) – The Lady Royals could easily make a case for the No. 6 spot, but for now they remain here. In their lone game last week, Coach Jay Fite’s squad dropped a close one to a strong East Carter team.

Monday, inside the old Maysville High Gym, Mason County, now with senior Carlee Buttery (10 ppg, 5 rpg) back in the lineup, will get a major opportunity. If they can knock off No. 2 Campbell County, the Lady Royals could firmly insert themselves into the conversation as a top-five team in the region. Fite’s team will then host West Carter on Wednesday in a rematch of their Lady Comets Winter Classic meeting over the holiday break, a game Mason County won 53-50.

The Lady Royals are led by senior Amirah Reed, who averages 16 points and 3 rebounds per game, while junior Kyleigh Kirk adds 11.1 points per outing.

9. HARRISON COUNTY (7-9) – Coach Bill Watson’s Fillies played just one game last week, falling to Garrard County in the 2A Section 5 Tournament. This week brings a busy stretch, beginning Monday with a rematch against Estill County, a team Harrison County defeated 43-35 just two weeks ago in the 4 Bank Classic at Garrard County. The Fillies return home Friday for a district matchup with Robertson County before heading to Brooksville on Saturday for a showdown with No. 10 Bracken County, a game that will test whether their No. 9 ranking holds steady.

Harrison County is led by senior Keylee Custard, who averages 16 points and 5 rebounds per game, while senior Lauren Hicks anchors the glass with a team-best 8 rebounds per outing.

10. BRACKEN COUNTY (7-5) – Coach Jonathon Nelson’s Lady Bears took a tough loss to No. 2 Campbell County last week, but they responded well by eliminating Robertson County in the All “A” Classic, which they are hosting. Tuesday night, they’ll take on No. 3 Bishop Brossart in a semifinal matchup. Their only other game this week is a home contest against Harrison County, which sits one spot ahead of them in my rankings.

The Lady Bears are led by sophomores Kailey Sharp (17.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg), Kyndall Johnson (11.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg), and Sophia Bachman (9.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg).

11. BOURBON COUNTY (3-11) – Talk about a young team. Coach Kylie Hilander’s Lady Colonels rely heavily on their middle school contributors, while getting key production from upperclassmen Paisley Hutchison, a sophomore and the team’s leading scorer at 9.2 points per game, and senior Reagan Ring, who averages 6.7 points and 10.8 rebounds.

Bourbon opened last week with a solid win over Lexington Sayre behind eighth grader Madison Akemon’s 16 points and Ring’s 16 rebounds. They then fell to region foe Pendleton County the following night and wrapped up a grueling, three games in three days stretch, with a tough loss to West Union (Ohio).

This week features two crucial district matchups: Tuesday trip to Winchester to face top-ranked George Rogers Clark, followed by Saturday’s annual rivalry showdown across town at Paris. Sandwiched between those district games is a Thursday night home meeting with Bluegrass United inside Russ Day Gym.

11. PARIS (11-5) – Coach Aaron Speaks’ Ladyhounds continue to overachieve despite graduating most of last year’s 24-win roster. They opened district play with a predictable loss to top-ranked GRC that snapped Paris’ 7-game win streak but bounced back with a solid win over St. Patrick behind freshman center Gabby Gardner’s 14 points and 19 rebounds, and junior Molly Mason’s 19 points and 11 rebounds, in the All “A” 10th Region Tournament.

Paris meets Nicholas County Monday, a team that defeated them 64-38 earlier this season, in the All “A” semifinals, then hosts cross-town rival Bourbon County on Saturday.

Senior Jamyah Bell, Mason (averaging a double-double) and Kyla Crutcher lead a short roster of 11 that includes eight freshmen and middle-school players.

13. AUGUSTA (4-8) – Coach Dana Bach’s Lady Panthers earned their second win of the season over St. Patrick before falling to No. 3 Bishop Brossart in the All “A” 10th Region Tournament. Augusta returns to action Friday with a trip to Lewis County and wraps up the week at home Saturday against Williamstown.

Freshman Kahghan Hinson leads the team averaging 12 points and 5 rebounds an outing.

14. ROBERTSON COUNTY (3-9) – Coach Brian Dufresne’s Lady Devils dropped games to Pendleton County and Bracken County, the latter coming at the All “A” 10th Region Tournament. Robertson will travel to Harrison County on Friday and head to Richmond on Saturday to face Model.

Junior Peyton Jolly continues to pace the team with 14.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

15. ST. PATRICK (1-10) – Coach Isaac Klee’s Lady Saints endured a difficult stretch with losses to Bracken County, and Augusta, and then Paris, in the All “A” Tournament. The Lady Saints will host Lewis County Monday and stay home Wednesday to take on Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington (Ohio).

Senior standout Lilian Klee continues to shine, averaging a region-best 28 points and a region-leading 15 rebounds per game. Klee scored all 25 of her team’s points against Bracken County, then followed it up by pouring in 26 of St. Patrick’s 28 points against Paris.
