MT. STERLING — Montgomery County girls basketball coach Dustin High has resigned after five seasons. High took over the program in 2019-20 and accumulated a record of 95-54. The Lady Indians were region finalists in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

This past season Montgomery County was 21-9. They graduate 10th Region Player of the Year Hayden Barrier.

Coach High said, “This was not an easy decision, but one that I felt was right for my family and myself. I would just like to say thank you to the Montgomery County Administration for giving me my first opportunity to be a head basketball coach. The girls basketball program has a lot of tradition and we did our best to continue that for our school and our community. Thank you to all the players, parents and assistant coaches who were the heart of our program and thank you to my family for allowing me to do what I love.”

Montgomery County Athletic Director Austin Maples said, “I want to personally thank Coach Dustin High for all he has done for the MCHS Lady Indians basketball program during his five-year tenure.  While I understand and respect his decision to resign, I want him to know how much he will be missed.  I cannot thank him enough for his dedication to his players, assistant coaches, and Montgomery County High School.  I wish Coach High nothing but the best, and I hope he enjoys the additional time he will have to spend with his wife and sons.

Montgomery County Athletics will now begin the process of posting the Girls Basketball Head Coach vacancy and will do all we can to ensure that we hire the best coach we can to lead the Lady Indians program.”
