Boys Basketball:

Campbell County 76, Scott 65

The Camels brought home their 11th straight 37th District Championship and first under new head coach Brent Sowder. Campbell County led 18-13 after the first quarter. Connor Weinel picked up his second foul late in the first quarter and did not play the entire second half.

Scott, however, was unable to capitalize on the absence of Weinel and the Eagles were down 36-26 at the half. Weinel had just 2 points. At the end of the third quarter, the Camels had their biggest lead of the night, up 52-34 (18 points).

Scott would fight back, and started out the final frame by outscoring Campbell County 17-3 over five minutes into the last quarter. With 3:10 left in the game it was Camels leading 57-51. After Xarek Sarakatsannis’s three-point play, the lead was cut to five points, 62-57, with two minutes remaining. From there, the Camels would get critical defense stops and knock down free throws to win the game 76-65.

Five different Camels scored in the second quarter absence of Weinel, who scored two points in the first half. Weinel finished with a team-leading 19 points. He scored 11 points in the last three minutes of the game. Garyn Jackson and Broc Sorgenfrei finished with 16 points each. Zach Franzen added 10.

Campbell County moves to 23-6. Scott drops to 14-17.

Girls Basketball:

George Rogers Clark 68, Montgomery County 43

The Lady Cards also won their their 11th straight 40th District Championship. GRC led 31-22 at the half. Kennedy Stamper led with 24 points. Anaya Chestnut followed with 17 points.
