CYNTHIANA, Ky. — Chad Persinger has resigned as Harrison County’s softball coach after five seasons. Persinger went 163-41 with the Fillies, winning four district championships, three 10th Region titles and two Kentucky 2A state championships.
Before Harrison County, Persinger spent 12 seasons as Bracken County’s softball coach from 2001 to 2012, compiling 220 wins, nine district championships, and three All “A” Classic regional titles.
Coach Persinger said the following on Facebook:
“This was a very tough decision to make. I have enjoyed my time here as the head coach and want to say how much I appreciate the dedication from all the past and present Fillie players. I’ve been blessed with excellent assistants and a plethora of talented athletes. The talent returning and the amount of young athletes being developed in the pipeline (through our rec department and travel ball) is going to make for some great teams here at Harrison County. It’s been a great ride and some great memories that I will always cherish. Thanks to all who supported our program the last several years. That was appreciated and won’t be forgotten. I look forward to some free time now but also look forward to supporting and cheering on our awesome athletes.”
Assistant coaches Rodney Persinger and Rachel Newby, who joined Persinger’s staff in 2022, have also submitted their resignations.
Persinger graduated from Bracken County High School in 1991, where he played basketball and baseball, helping his teams win one basketball district title and four baseball district titles. He went on to play basketball at Kentucky Christian College, starting at point guard for the program’s NCCAA Division II national championship team. After earning a degree in education, he returned to Bracken County to begin his coaching career.
Persinger coached baseball for three seasons, from 1996 to 1998, leading the team to more than 20 wins and a district championship in his first season. Bracken County did not field a softball team in 2000, and Persinger took over the softball program in 2001. The following year, his team went just 3-12 but upset Mason County in the district finals to win the school’s first softball district championship. Persinger also coached boys’ basketball at Bracken County from 2009-10 to 2013-14.
